SUHBA Member Orientation will be sponsored and held at the Holiday Inn Express, at 2450 N. Town Center Drive in Washington, on Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. SUHBA Scholarship Application Deadline is April 15th
Each year, Southern Utah Home Builders Association (SUHBA) awards scholarships to deserving students attending college or vocational school. Preference for scholarships are given to students pursuing construction-related education and students affiliated with SUHBA; however all students may apply. The scholarship may be used to fund almost any post-secondary education, i.e., college or vocational, public or private. Recipients may be awarded up to $1,000 per academic year. SUHBA Scholarships are made possible in part by funds generated from the annual SUHBA Scholarship Golf Tournament. This year’s tournament will be held at Sunbrook Golf Course on June 11th. This class "Significant Changes to the International Residential Code 2009 Edition" will familiarize people in the building construction industry with many of the important changes in the 2009 IRC, and more importantly, understanding the reasons behind the changes. It is organized to talk about Administration, new definitions, building construction (shear walls, floors, roofs etc), electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fuel gas, the new energy requirements and swimming pool changes.
Time will also be devoted to the new Green Construction Code. This informative class is being held on Thursday, April 22, 2010, from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm, at the DXATC at 1071 E 100 S, Bldg C, St. George.

The American Welding Society (AWS) Utah Section - 59 will be holding a Welding Inspection Seminar - Welding Procedures, on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 5:30 pm. This is a two hour class and it will meet the requirement for professional development hours of AWS QC-1, section 16.5.2. Everyone is welcome to attend, this seminar is free for AWS members, the fee for non-members is $125. This is a technical seminar and it will be held at St. George Social Hall at 47 E 200 N, in St. George. Last Day to Accrue Points & Submit Builder Intent is April 29th

The 2010 Parade of Homes had 24,300 attendees! By being a Parade Builder, your company is promoted to the people walking through your home and also in the Parade Magazine, on local radio stations, and in the Spectrum newspaper. Reach thousands of people who are interested in building, remodeling, home design, and decorating by becoming a 2011 Parade Builder. This is such a great way to get your name out. Gerene Mason (Southern Utah Health Insurance), Jon Pike (Intermountain Health Care), David Clark (Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives), and Jeff Hyde (Hunt, Roberts, & Leavitt Insurance) will answer questions regarding how the new Obama Health Care Law will affect all of us as business owners and as employees and citizens. Two-Thirds of Americans Say Now Is a Good Time to Buy a Home

A nationwide survey recently conducted by Fannie Mae has determined that 65% of today's home owners and renters still believe in the solid value of homeownership and prefer to own their own home if possible. The NAHB Web site provides detailed information on both the extended $8,000 first-time home buyer tax credit and the new $6,500 repeat buyer tax credit signed into law by President Obama.
Consumers can use the Web site to find information on both tax credits — including frequently asked questions and links to social media sites that provide updated information as it becomes available. It also includes a number of home-buying resources for consumers.
