April Membership Luncheon
Luncheon Speaker:  “A Bright Future for Dixie State!”

Things are hopping at Dixie State College…from the inauguration of Dixie’s 17th President, Dr. Stephen D. Nadauld; the addition of three new degrees in January – including their 13th baccalaureate degree  and two more pending announcement this week; the legislature funding of $35 million to accommodate the construction of Dixie’s new Jeffrey R. Holland Centennial  Commons Building (HCC); or the phenomenal growth Dixie has enjoyed the last two years… there are a variety of reasons to be optimistic at Dixie State College.

As a community we benefit from a strong secondary education source.  It benefits the community through learning, bringing the opportunity for the arts and athletics and the economic impact a four-year model can bring to the businesses currently residing in Washington County – and those that are looking to move here.

President Nadauld will be our April luncheon speaker on Tuesday, April 6th at the Gardner Center’s Ballroom at Dixie State College.  The luncheon buffet line opens at 11:45 am. Each Member Business receives one complimentary lunch. Any additional lunches are $13. Bring your business cards for a fun networking activity and mingle with your peers in the building industry.

Tax Credit Expiring Soon
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) wants potential home buyers to be aware that they still have the opportunity to take advantage of the $8,000 first-time home buyer or $6,500 repeat buyer tax credits, as long as they act quickly—the credits expire on April 30, 2010.

“It’s not too late to take advantage of the home buyer tax credit,” said NAHB Chairman Bob Jones. “There are plenty of existing homes on the market, and even though the move-in ready newly constructed homes inventory has dwindled, builders may still be able finish a home in time.”  ...More
The Economy Shows Slow Improvement
NAHB
Although the long anticipated turnaround in employment has yet to occur, some slight improvement on this front is providing hope that job gains may only be a month or two away. Nonfarm payroll employment fell 36,000 in February at a seasonally adjusted annual rate. Though greater than the loss of 26,000 jobs in January, given the extremely bad weather over much of the nation that month, the “true” job losses might not have been quite as large. ...More

How to Work a Local Home Builders Association Meeting Effectively
Donna Weatherstone pulled into the parking lot of Fisher’s Restaurant and immediately started looking for a place to park close to a car or truck with a familiar logo on the side. This was Donna’s first HBA meeting as the new hired employee of Crown Concrete Supply Company.

When she arrived at the table in the entrance to the Cape Fear Room, she was greeted by Brenda Johnson, a volunteer with the local HBA, and received her badge. Donna placed it on the right side of her blouse and began to look for the familiar faces she knew were here, builders and associates matching the vehicles parked outside. ...More
