Washington City Wastewater Impact Fee
Washington City will be holding a Public Hearing on Tuesday, November 10 at 6:30 pm in the Washington City Council Chambers. The Council will be taking input from the public on the proposed Wastewater Master Plan/CFP and proposed Impact Fees related to the implementation of the new Wastewater Master Plan. The analysis of the proposed impact fee equals $1,159 for each new equivalent residential unit. If this fee were adopted it would decrease fees on the south side of the Virgin River from the current $2,015/eru down $991/eru to $1,159/eru The fees on the north side of the Virgin River would increase $509/eru from the current $650/eru to $1,159/eru.
St. George Front Yard Landscaping for Single Family Homes Amendment
St. George City will be holding a Public Hearing on Thursday, November 19th at 5:00 pm in the St. George City Council chambers. The Council will be taking input from the public on a proposed zoning amendment to amend the St. George City Code, Title 10 Zoning Regulations, Chapter 25 "Landscape Standards" Section 10-25-6 to require in all single family residential zones at least 30% of the front yard area shall be landscaped subject to certain criteria. Hurricane City Planning Commission to Discuss Addition to Sign Ordinance
The Hurricane City Planning Commission will hold a public hearing during its regular meeting on Thursday November 12, 2009 at 6 p.m. to discuss the addition of a clause in Chapter 36, Signs, of the Land Use Code prohibiting the obstruction of existing signs with new signs.
Proposed change to section 10-36-3 L to read: "No sign shall be constructed or erected in such a location that it obstructs or interferes with an existing sign." GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
Five Local Municipalities Preparing to Amend Capital Facilities Plans (CFP) & Impact Fees
Washington City has filed a Notice of Intent to prepare or amend two Capital Facilities Plans (CFP) and impact fees for water and transportation. Mike Shaw, Washington City Public Works Director, has stated that the wastewater will be presented first on November 10 at 6:30 pm, with the water and transportation plans to follow.
Kanab City has filed a Notice of Intent to prepare or amend a Capital Facilities Plan (CFP). These new capital facilities may include public safety, culinary water system, wastewater system, parks and recreation, storm drainage improvements, and streets. The Town of Springdale intends to prepare or amend a CFP for stormwater management and parks and recreation. LaVerkin City has filed notice that they are in the process of contracting to prepare studies that may result in the preparation of or amendment to the CFP and possible changes to impact fees for irrigation water and storm water. Ivins is considering a CFP for stormwater management plans. Washington County Prepared to Receive Funding from American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA)
Washington County Commission has adopted a resolution designating a recovery zone for the purposes of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. With that action the county is now able to allocate bonding volume cap as described below.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provides a volume cap allocation for up to $41,818,000 in subsidized, taxable bonding for public purposes within the county. The subsidy is a reimbursement, by the federal government, of 45% of the interest payments on the bonds. The bond funds must be used within the county, and for public purpose projects or job training. This program may be of assistance to our public sector members. ...More NAHB NEWS

Congress has passed and President Obama has signed legislation that will extend the first-time home buyer tax credit into next year and expand its eligibility to include many more home buyers. 2009-2010 Home Buyer Tax Credit Talking Points
The unemployment extension bill that was signed into law on Nov. 6 by President Obama has major benefits for both new and existing home buyers.It extends the $8,000 tax credit until April 30, 2010, for first-time home buyers. Further, a new $6,500 tax credit has been created for repeat buyers who are purchasing a principal residence during the same period. Repeat buyers can claim the $6,500 tax credit if they have been residing in their principal residence for five consecutive years out of the last eight. Both categories of home buyers have until June 30, 2010, to close on the home after signing a contract prior to May 1, 2010. Click here to read more.

(2) PUBLIC WORKS - The city is looking for volunteers to help with regular inspections of specific infrastructures within the city. This is a monthly volunteer opportunity.
